Archipiélago
Inspired by his connection to the Caribbean, Ricardo Rodríguez frames his relationship to environment, culture, and photography through the series Archipiélago. Drawing from topographical maps, the work explores ideas of connection and separation, tropical idealism, environmental change, and the ways in which photography, like mapping, flattens complex realities into representation.
Raised in Puerto Rico, Rodríguez reflects on how Caribbean islands are both isolated and deeply connected—linked by shared histories, environments, and cultures, yet separated by politics and geography. His organic, sculptural frames reference the shifting boundaries of land and sea, evoking both the illusion of permanence and the reality of erosion and rising waters.
